TAURANGA INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL BATSMEN WINS THE BOP CRICKET PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARD

Posted: Thursday, 3 April 2014

A Tauranga Intermediate School cricket player with a bright future ahead of him has won the March Bay of Plenty Cricket Player of the Month award.

Bay of Plenty Cricket introduced the BOP Cricket Player of the Month Award in 2006.  The purpose of the award is to recognise excellence in Bay of Plenty Cricket during each month of the playing season.

Taylor Bettleheim, who is captain of the Tauranga Intermediate in the Active Post (formerly Milo) Cup competition, smashed a century apiece in two Bay of Plenty Active Cup eliminators during March.

Facing the John Paul College from Rotorua, the Tauranga Intermediate skipper was in sublime touch as he hammered 106 not out, as his team cruised to victory. In the next round of the Bay of Plenty Active Post Cup series, Taylor again took to the opposition bowling blasting an unbeaten 107 against Te Puke Intermediate to lead his team to victory.

During the latter part of 2013, Taylor was a key batsman in the Bay of Plenty Coastland Primary team, which completed the ND Primary competition with an unbeaten record. Last Saturday (29 March 2014), Taylor signed off from the current season in style, with an unbeaten 66 for Tauranga Intermediate Black in the Saturday morning Intermediate grade cricket competition. Coincidently, the January and February BOPCA Player of the Month awards, were won by Northern Knight and Bay of Plenty all rounder Brett Hampton who assists Tauranga Intermediate coach Aubrey Jeftha with the school’s first eleven
