Day 1

Defending ND Senior Secondary Cricket title holders Bay of Plenty Coastland, made an impressive start to their title defence in Gisborne this week (11-15 December 2017), with two solid victories on the opening day of the tournament.

The Coastland representatives, who are drawn from the Western Bay of Plenty, posted 130/7 in the T20 morning round against Waikato Valley. Mikaere Leef top scored with an unbeaten 27, with opener Marcel Collett reaching 25 before being dismissed.

A short and sharp second turn at bat, saw the Waikato region side bowled out for just 49 runs. Cam Riley was the best of the Bay teams bowlers taking 3/15 with Iman Singh and Fergus Lellman both taking two wickets at little cost.

Bay of Plenty Lakeland also opened their ND age-group campaign, with a win over Poverty Bay. Led by 36 from Whakatane all-rounder Chris Tupea, the Lakeland representatives posted  127/9, with Ryan Neves also in good touch with 34 runs. Four wickets from Jarrod Mealings did the damage, as the hosts were bowled out for 113, to give the Lakeland side a hard fought 14 run win.

Coastland squared off with the ND Invitation side in the afternoon action, with their opponents reaching 109/3. Western Bay youngster Tim Pringle, who had been selected for the Invitation team, top scored with an undefeated 59. Rhys Mischewski took two wickets at a cost of 17 runs. Dominic Crombie anchored the Coastland victory with 33 runs as they got home for the loss of four wickets.

Bay of Plenty Lakeland posted 104/8 against Northland, with Ryan Neves again getting amongst the runs with his sides top score of 30. The team from the far north were made to fight for the victory losing five wickets. Connor Scott-Moore was the best of the Lakeland bowling attack taking two wickets for 17 runs,

Day two, sees fifty-over-per-side matches with Coastland in a rematch of lastly years final against Hamilton, while Lakeland will square off with Counties Manukau.
