ND Primary Boys Tournament Day 2

Posted: Tuesday, 28 November 2017

It was a tough day at the office for the two Bay of Plenty teams playing at the annual ND Primary tournament in Hamilton, with both tasting defeat on day two (Monday 26 November 2017).

Counties Manukau batted first against Bay of Plenty Lakeland and set the Bay side a very big target, when they were dismissed for 288. Harry Jones and Ben Solomon both bowled with enthusiasm and were rewarded with two wickets apiece.

While the Lakeland batsmen made a promising start, the opposition bowlers won the battle between bat and ball, to remove the Bay boys for 146. Harry Jones top scored with 52 with Ethan Forbes posting an unbeaten 43 runs.

Bay of Plenty Coastland won the toss and asked Hamilton to take first use of the batting strip. Hamilton reached 243/4 in their allotted forty overs, however they were left off the hook, when one of their batsmen was dropped on 30 before going on to post a century.

The Hamilton bowlers hit their momentum from the start of the Bay sides turn at bat, bowling the Coastland representatives out for 72. Spencer Wills was the best of his sides batsmen, top scoring with 14 runs. Coastland management reported that their players are finding it tough to adapt to the shorter pitches, giving away a lot of extras.
