ND Primary Boys Tournament Day 1

Posted: Monday, 27 November 2017

The two Bay of Plenty teams playing at the annual ND Primary tournament being played in Hamilton, both posted an avalanche of runs on the opening day (Sunday 26 November 2017).

Bay of Plenty Lakeland were involved in a high scoring thriller with Northland. The team from the top of the North Island, batted first and set the Bay side a substantial target, reaching 212/7 in their allotted forty overs. Ben Doogue took three wickets with Lachlan White returning figures of 2/34.

The Lakeland boys got away to a good start and were in the hunt all the way. Cohen Stewart and Jack Clarke posted identical scores of 44, with Ethan Forbes also in good touch with 34 runs. There was heartbreak on display, with the Lakeland sides reply falling just two runs short, as they were restricted to 210/7 in their forty overs.

The Bay of Plenty Coastland side, set their Counties Manukau opponents a very big challenge, when they took first use of the batting strip to post 271/5. Dary Collett and Dylan Fletcher were both rewarded with half centuries, with Spencer Wills, Jonathon Smallberger and Harsh Patel also making solid contributions to the big total.

However Counties Manukau were up to the challenge and sneaked home to victory with just three wickets and a few balls to spare. Dary Collett and Spencer Wills backed up their batting with two wickets apiece.

Day two sees Lakeland taking on Counties Manukau with Coastland squaring off with tournament hosts Hamilton.
