Rotorua Little League Cricket

An exciting new initiative will open the BOPCA Lakeland region cricket season, when a day/night age-group T20 tournament is held at the Rotorua International Stadium on Saturday and Sunday 23rd and 24th September 2017.

Four Teams of Year Seven and Eight cricket players drawn from the Eastern Bay of Plenty, Rotorua and Taupo, will vie for early season honours in two days (and nights) of pulsating T20 action.
Rotorua Little League Cricket spokes person Mark Chapman said “The idea was conceived around an approach for a trial of the artificial wicket from Flicx Pitch. We thought how best we might get some coverage for the product coupled with what is traditionally a difficult period to secure pitches for Junior pre-season games. We are obviously very appreciative of the support from Flicx, Events and Venues and Bay of Plenty Cricket along with our Lakeland Association neighbours.”

The four teams have been given names that will complement the non-stop action, in Dragons, Thunder, Rebels and Wizards. The Whakatane Wizards are drawn from the Eastern Bay of Plenty, while the Rebels will have a number of Taupo players in their ranks, with John Paul College supporting the Dragons and Thunder. Two unique innovations, will be part of the kick-off of the age-group cricket season in the Bay of Plenty Cricket Lakeland region. Early evening games will be played under lights, with portable atifical wickets provided by Neeraj Kumar of Flicx Pitch New Zealand.

There is sure to be plenty of interest in the Flicx Pitch wicket, which is easily transportable and can provide a mulitude of temporary wicket options. Flicx Pitch artifical wickets, supply a non-slip surface that provides consistent bounce for both batsmen and bowlers and takes both seam and spin
Accompanying the action on the field will be a Festival Family Fun Day. There will be raffles, a car wash and refreshments and food on offer, with entrance by way of a gold coin donation.
