HARD AND FAST CONDITIONS PRODUCE A AVALANCHE OF RUNS IN THE VESATILE TAURANGA WILLIAMS CUP

Posted: Friday, 22 January 2021

Hard and fast wickets and outfields, have seen an avalanche of runs in the opening two rounds of the 2021 Versatile Tauranga Williams Cup.

Eves Realty Greerton top order batsman Tom MacRury, has continued on his remarkable run of Baywide form, with his season best of 137 in Williams Cup action. His latest ton follows on from back to back centuries in the Bay of Plenty Cup.

The Greerton run-scoring machine will be a key figure this weekend, when Greerton motor over the harbour bridge to take on long-time rivals Bond & Co Mount Maunganui, at Blake Park.

Mount Maunganui also has their share of batsmen who like to put bat to ball. Ben Musgrave, Niven Dovey and skipper Matt Golding, will all be looking forward to engaging the Greerton bowlers in combat.

Element IMF Cadets will be without their two rising stars, in Tim Pringle and Fergus Lellman, who are on Bay of Plenty representative duty. However they have cover in their ranks, in what should be a competitive encounter with Papamoa at the Alice Johnson Oval.

Papamoa flexed their muscles in their first season of Baywide cricket, with three wins in the first-half of the season, Bay of Plenty Cup. Ben Guild and Andrew Goldsmith belted centuries for the new recruits with Reece Shelton holding a prominent place in the bowling stakes.

Flying Mullet Te Puke, will want to put last weekends nine wicket loss to Cadets behind them, when Generation Homes Lake Taupo pay a visit to the Te Puke Domain. Te Puke, had their best Baywide competition finish for several years, when they finished second to Greerton in the Bay of Plenty Cup.

The Lake Taupo premier team is the cricket flag bearer in the Great Lake region, with the game going ahead in leaps in bounds, since Lake Taupo made their Baywide debut three seasons ago.

Smallbone Park in the Sulphur City will host the match-up between Craigs Investment Partners Geyser and Holland Beckett Law Tauranga Boys College. Both sides will likely be desperate to grab their first Williams Cup win of the season, with a game of attrition, on the cards at the Rotorua cricket ground.
