The call to duty has been announcced to Bay of Plenty cricket players with Croatian heritage, to put their names forward for selection in the New Zealand Croatian cricket team, who have scheduled a number of matches this season.
While New Zealand Croatia was only formalized in early 2013, the new boys on the block have already made their international debut. In August the New Zealand Croatian team travelled to the Cook Island where they played in a tri-series against the Cook Islands National and Under 19 teams.
Included in New Zealand Croatia tour of the Cook Islands was long time ND player Joey Yovich - while Anton Devcich was unavailable due to being selected in the New Zealand A team that toured India.
The philosophy behind the team formation is Kiwis of Croatian descent that are proud to share their heritage through the love of cricket. New Zealand Croatia Cricket has a website at http://newzealandcroatiacricket.weebly.com/ and is also on face book, where further information on the organization can be found.
There is an opportunity for club players in the Bay of Plenty, of Croatian descent, to put their names forward for representative selection. The initial contact if you qualify and are interested in playing for the team, is Tony Govorko whose details can be found on the New Zealand Croatia website.
There are two fixtures lined up in November for New Zealand Croatia, with the side squaring off with Northern Districts Maori on the 17 November before backing up a week later against the NZ Cricket Professional Players Association. Further matches are currently being arranged in the second half of the season.
