Busy Week Scheduled for Three Bay of Plenty Age-Group Teams

Posted: Saturday, 12 December 2020

The week starting Monday 14th December 2020, will be a busy week for three Bay of Plenty age-group teams and management, tournament officials and umpires, with the ND Senior Secondary and ND Secondary Schoolgirls tournaments taking place.

The annual five day Senior Secondary tournament, has made a switch from Gisborne to the Bay of Plenty region, after nearly a decade in Poverty Bay. The majority of play is centered on Boord and Smalbone Parks in Rotorua, however one pool of T20 encounters, will take place at Blake Park in the Western Bay of Plenty on day one.

Wednesday (16 December 2020) sees the ND Secondary Schoolgirls tournament kick off at John Kerkhof Park in Cambridge. The T20 Championship brings together the best ND Secondary Schoolgirl players, from the Northland, Counties Manukau, Hamilton, Waikato Valley, Bay of Plenty and Poverty Bay Minor Associations, for three days of cricket action.

The Bay of Plenty Coastland Senior Secondary cricket representatives, will take a remarkable record into the 2020 ND Senior Secondary tournament, being played in Rotorua and Blake Park in the Western Bay next week.

The Peter Swan coached side, has gone twelve games without defeat stretching back two years. On the last day of the 2019 tournament, the Coastland representatives added the ND Senior Secondary Championship title to the 2019 T20 crown. The ND 2019 Championship victory gave the Bay side back to back Alan Whimp Trophies.

Reports received tell a story of the Bay of Plenty Lakeland Senior Secondary side, drawn from the Rotorua and Eastern Bay of Plenty regions, well prepared and ready to fire at the annual ND competition.

In addition, a further seven Bay of Plenty young men have earned selection in the ND Invitation team.  Western Bay players Kade Smit, Rhys Newbury, Harsh Patel, Joe Smythe and Riley Brady, will be joined by Jordan Smith and Matt Ward from the Lakeland region.

In other Bay of Plenty Cricket news, two Bay all-rounders have been selected for the Northern Districts team that will play at the NZ Cricket Under 19 National tournament, which kicks off on the 16th December 2020. Tim Pringle and Niven Dovey, have been in grand form in Baywide premier and representative cricket this season to earn Northern Districts call-ups, with Liam Collett and Ben Vyver selected as non-travelling reserves.
