Bay Of Plenty Cricket Host Two ND Age-Group Tournaments Next Week

Bay of Plenty Cricket resources will be stretched like a shanghai next week, with the Northern Districts Minor Association, hosting two age group tournaments in the region.

Tauranga City, will host the ND Secondary Schoolgirls annual tournament for the fourth success year at Fergusson Park, with Rotorua accommodating the ND Junior Secondary tournament. 

The two age-group competition to be held in the Bay of Plenty, along with the Primary and Senior Secondary tournaments, are the pathway for the most promising talent in the region to advance to professional cricket. 

In recent seasons, Black Caps such as Kane Williamson, Doug Bracewell, Tim Southee and Trent Boult have played in ND age-group tournaments. Another to progress to representing her country, is White Fern Anna Paterson, who captained Bay of Plenty at the ND Secondary Schoolgirls competition.

Bay of Plenty Coastland will enter the ND Junior Secondary championship, as the defending champions, after beating Northland in last seasons title decider. The team from the far north posted 190/7 with the Bay of Plenty representatives squeezing home to a two wicket win.

The 2016 ND Secondary Schoolgirls title was taken out by Hamilton from near neighbors Waikato Valley. The 2016 round robin competition draw, matched the two Waikato sides in the last days 30 over per side encounter, which in reality became the title decider. 

Hamilton batted first and posted a very solid 156/3. However their opponents weren’t fazed by the big target and were in the run chase all the way. The match went down to the final over of the game, with Hamilton sneaking home to take out the Northern Districts title, by just three runs.
