FERGUS HICKEY RECAP VS WAIKATO VALLEY 2023

After winning the toss, Waikato Valley chose to bat first and put on an impressive batting display. Taylor Bettelheim (179) and Dillon Kelliher (50) got off to a flying start, putting on a partnership of 101 runs before Kelliher was dismissed LBW. James Field (88) also made a valuable contribution to the innings, but the rest of the team could only manage 23 runs between them. Waikato Valley ended up scoring 344 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in 100 overs, with Craigs Investment Partners Bay of Plenty's Pete Drysdale (5/80) being the pick of the bowlers.

In response, Marcel Collett started strongly but struggled to find a teammate to form a partnership with - he was dismissed after facing 127 balls for 58. Coming in at 8 Iman Nahal put on an impressive 48 however, the rest of the batting lineup struggled, and the team was bowled out for 222 runs. With Waikato Valley having secured a lead of 122 runs, Bay of Plenty were forced to follow on.

In their second innings, Bay of Plenty finished up on 52/2 at the end of the second day's play. Pete Drysdale was the top scorer with an unbeaten 25 off 35 balls, but it was not enough to prevent Waikato Valley from winning the match on the basis of their first innings lead.

Craigs Investment Partners Bay of Plenty will be looking to bounce back in their last representative game of the season against Counties Manukau at Bay Oval on 18th and 19th March.
