CRAIGS INVESTMENT PARTNERS Bay Development Team to Fight Out ND Title on Sunday

Posted: Friday, 5 March 2021

The recent Covid 19 lockdowns, have affected two Bay of Plenty representative teams, who were getting to the business ends of their Northern Districts campaigns.

Craigs Investment Partners Bay of Plenty, ND Development title decider, which was scheduled for War Memorial Park in Manurewa last Sunday, has been rescheduled for the Bay Oval at Mount Maunganui this Sunday (7 March 2021).

The Bay of Plenty Fergus Hickey Rosebowl encounter with Counties Manukau, booked for this weekend, has been pushed out by seven days.

Success for the Bay of Plenty representatives against Hamilton on Sunday, would give the Bay Second Eleven their second Basil McBurney Trophy in three seasons, sandwiching a paper-thin margin second place finish twelve months ago.

Coach Russell Williams said, “I’m really proud of how far we have come in the last four seasons. This campaign we have been really strong and have some great talent coming through”. “One more game to go, so we will be looking to execute another good performance and hopefully win the final on Sunday, which would be a great reward for this group. They have certainly earned their chance at another trophy”.

The Bay team will walk down the pathway to the Bay Oval ground, with a three game ND Development unbeaten record this season. First up, they chased down Counties Manukau target of 192 with six wickets in hand.

The second match against Northland at the half-way venue in Manurewa, saw Northland restricted to 210/8, with the Bay side having to fight hard to post a three wicket victory.

The re-scheduled round two encounter with Hamilton resulted in a dramatic Bay of Plenty win. Batting first, the Bay team looked short of a winnable total when they were bowled out for 217. Enter Bay bowler Finn Dempsey, who took six wickets to play a huge hand in removing Hamilton for 196, to keep intact their winning sequence.
