Posted: Friday, 29 January 2021

The November and December Bay of Plenty Cricket Player of the Month Award, are to be presented to two Bay of Plenty club batsmen, for outstanding achievements with their willow weapons.

Bay of Plenty Cricket introduced the BOPCA Player of the Month Award in 2004.  The purpose of the award is to recognise excellence in Bay of Plenty Cricket during each month of the playing season.

Greerton master blaster Tom MacRury, went on the rampage during consecutive Baywide Bay of Plenty Cup encounters, during November 2020. On Saturday 21 November 2021, the Greerton opener smacked 114 off just 59 balls, as his side chased down Central Indians target of

Seven days later, Tom played a very big part in Greerton posting 331 for the loss of six wickets, against Geyser. This time, Tom belted a slightly more pedestrian 110 from 80 deliveries, which included fourteen 4's and five 6's.

The Baywide big prize of the Versatile Tauranga Williams Cup, which takes centre stage in the second half of the season, has seen MacRury again taking aim on the opposition bowlers,  with 137 against Tauranga Boys College on the 16 January 2021..

Another remarkable batting performance grabbed the local headlines in December 2020. Central Cricket Club Reserve Grade opening batsman Nathan Hall, produced an innings in Central's match-up with Taupo Old Boys, which they could only watch in awe.

Hall hit 250 not out from 132 deliveries, which was even more impressive, coming in a forty over game. Boundaries constituted a large percentage of Nathan's attack on the opposition bowlers, with twenty eight 4's and eight big heaves over the boundary ropes on the full.
