Day Three Recap

Eves Realty Greerton continued to learn about the realities of life in the fast-lane of the National Club Championships, on day three. The National title matches up the winners of the NZ Cricket Major Association Club Championships, in head to head combat, to find the top club in the country

Day three saw the Bay of Plenty representatives meet home-town representatives, Parnell. Greerton were sent out to field after losing the toss and captured the first Parnell wicket with the last ball of the opening over. For a second day in a row, a big top order partnership made tough going for the Greerton bowling attack, with a 140 run third wicket stand.

Parnell, were finally removed with just two balls remaining in their innings, with 307 runs on the scoreboard. Daniel Spencer was the best of the Greerton bowlers taking four wickets at a cost of 44 runs.

Greerton lost early wickets, to be 25, for the loss of two wickets. When tournament skipper Brett Hampton went for 33, the Bay of Plenty side had a whole lot of work in front of them, to keep up with the required run rate.

Vice-captain Shane Wineti rallied his sides attempts to hit out before being dismissed for his team’s top score of 38 runs. Batting at nine, Daniel Spencer posted 25 off 23 balls, before the end came with Greerton bowled out for 175, to give the Auckland representatives their first win of the tournament.
