BOPCA Junior NPL Five Game Series Kicks Off At The Bay Oval

The Bay of Plenty Cricket Junior NPL (Northern Premier League) which was a big hit in March 2017, returns for a five week series during November and December 2017 at the Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui. 

Last season, Bay of Plenty Cricket Women’s Development Officer Rebecca Yee put in place a junior version of Northern Districts highly successful NPL. Four Year 7 to Year 10 teams, played on the Bay Oval in games where enjoyment of cricket was as important as the game results

This year’s Junior NPL, is a continuation of the one-day event, for girls between 11 and 13 years of age and will run on five successive Friday evenings, kicking off on the 3rd November 2017. 

The BOPCA Junior NPL, follows on from the highly successfully GoGirl in-school program for year 4-6 girls and is the next stepping stone in the female player pathway.

BOPCA Cricket Manager Tai Bridgman-Raison said “The Junior NPL competition provides the next step in the female pathway as player’s progress from the Year 4-6 GoGirl program. Eventually we will expand the Junior NPL to include the year 10-13 year age bracket as the current players move through the age-grades”.

An introduction to the Junior NPL series will take place at the Bay Oval on Sunday 29th October 2017. A number of NPL senior players including Northern Spirit team members, will be on hand to offer coaching tips and general playing support.

The use of social media has seen a Junior NPL page created on the NPL website and a BOPCA Junior NPL Instagram account, is likely to attract plenty of followers during the quick-fire competition.
