Selection to Under 18

The selection accolades continue, for the two Bay of Plenty young players who were selected for the North Island Under 18 Girls tournament team, after the recent North Island tournament in Wellington.

Holly Topp and Briana Perry, who played for Northern Districts in the Wellington competition, excelled in competitive play during the tournament and earned selection in the tournament eleven. While the team is a paper selection that doesn’t play any competition cricket, it is a rare honour for the two Bay of Plenty young players.

Holly and Briana, were joined in the ND team by two other Bay players in Nensi Patel and Taneika Uerata, in competition against the best young women’s talent in the North Island.

The emergence of success in the young women’s game in the Bay of Plenty,  has gone hand in hand with the establishment of the Bay of Plenty Go Girl cricket program in 2013.

The Go-Girl program is the first step in Bay of Plenty Crickets female player pathway, with the strategic aim being to build a strong junior playing base, offer innovative competitions for intermediate and secondary-school aged players, while also ensuring that the best possible opportunities exist for those players who wish to progress to higher honours.
Both Briana and Holly, have shown their emerging talent with selection in the Bay of Plenty Senior Women’s team in the last two seasons, while still attending secondary school. Briana has gone on to win a place in the Velocity, which is one of four sides taking part in the Northern Provincial (Women’s) League this season.
