Carrus Mount Maunganui win against Melville in Semi Finals

Carrus Mount Maunganui, moved another step closer to representing Northern Districts at the National Club Champions again, when they won a battle of attrition in a ND Club Champs semi-final, at Blake Park on Sunday (15 January 2017).

Squaring off against Hamilton representatives Melville, Mount Maunganui won the toss and elected to bat. At 106 for the loss of three wickets, the home side were in good shape. Batting at four, Pete Drysdale settled down to control the Waikato region bowlers, going on to anchors his side solid target with an undefeated 109 runs, in his sides total of 236 all out.

The Bay of Plenty skippers three figure score, was his eleventh premier century for the club, four ahead of James Pamment. Drysdale’s ton came at better than a run a ball and included nines 4’s and three big shots over the boundary ropes. Opener Brenton Thompson also made a big contribution to his sides solid target with 47 runs on his ledger card. 

The Mount Maunganui bowling attack quickly found line and length, with the first Melville wicket falling with just 11 runs on the board. When the Mount bowlers took their fifth wicket for 129, the game (Mount Maunganui 5/121) was up for grabs. 

Mount Maunganui first change bowler Chris Atkinson did the damage in the middle of the order taking three wickets at a cost of 33 runs. Nick Smith wrapped up the tail with three wickets, as the Hamilton representatives were removed for 179, to hand Mount Maunganui a place in the ND Club Champs Final.

The Mount Maunganui first eleven will play Northland representatives in City CC, who defeated Counties Manukau side Manukau, to reach the Eric Petrie Cup title decider. The match will be played Mount Maunganui headquarters at Blake Park with the game set down for Sunday 19th March 2017) 

The Bay of Plenty Development “Friendly” encounter against Hawkes Bay at Owen Delaney Park in Taupo, didn’t get started, because of wet weather in the Great Lake region.
