Congratulations to BOP Players Selected in ND Age Group teams

The progression of Bay of Plenty age group players to Northern Districts representative sides has continued this season, with a number of Bay players selected for the ND Women’s Under 21 and ND Under 19 sides.

The two ND age-group teams are both playing in their respective NZ Cricket national tournaments, which kick off on Thursday 15th December and run through to Wednesday 21st December 2016.

The NZC Women’s Under 21 tournament, is to be played at Lloyd Elsmore Park in Auckland, with the NZC Men’s under 19 tournament being played at Lincoln in Canterbury.

Kate Anderson, Briana Perry and Nensi Patel, who all played in the recent Northern Districts NPL (Northern Provincial League) games at the Bay Oval, have earned selection in the ND Women’s Under 21 team

Kate Anderson is a prolific run maker, who posted the Bay of Plenty Women’s team top score of the 215/16 season with 93 not out, against a combined Northland and Counties Manukau side.

Briana Perry and Nensi Patel, were members of the Tauranga Girls College first XI, who finished a meritorious third place in the NZCT Secondary Schoolgirls National Finals in November. Both youngsters, who have several years still to come in the Under 21 ranks, were first choice selection in the Bay of Plenty Women’s side last season.

Another Bay of Plenty player went close to selection being named as a non-travelling reserve. Holly Topp, also played in the NPL and is also a regular Bay of Plenty Women’s team member.

Rotorua all-rounder Alastair Blackett, who has been selected for the ND Under 19 team, burst onto the ND Fergus Hickey Rosebowl scene just a couple of weeks ago. Blackett stunned observers at the annual ND One-Day tournament in Taupo in early December, when he took six wickets against ND heavyweights Hamilton. His six wickets for 35 runs were the best bowling figures of the tournament.

Bay of Plenty quick bowler Gurwinder Singh, who also has made his Bay of Plenty senior men’s side this year, was on the cusp of selection being named as a non-travelling reserve.

The Bay of Plenty connection with the ND Under 19 team, continues with Graeme Aldridge being named as the sides assistant coach. Aldridge who toured Zimbabwe with the Black Caps several years ago, had a long and illustrious with the Northern Knights, before turning to coaching last season. Graeme’s  first year as Bay of Plenty senior men’s coach, saw the Bay side win a unique treble of the ND Brian Dunning Trophy and Fergus Hickey Rosebowl as well as annexing the NZ Cricket Hawke Cup
