Hamilton And Waikato Valley To Fight Out The ND Secondary Schoolgirls Cricket Tournament

Hamilton and Waikato Valley will fight out the ND Secondary Schoolgirls cricket tournament being played in Tauranga City this week (30 November/2 December). The two teams are drawn to meet in the final day’s fifth round, of thirty overs per side, with the winner of the encounter lifting aloft the Louise Milliken Cup in triumph. 

Waikato Valley posted their third straight win, when they overcame Northland in the morning day two T20 match-up. Northland took first use of the batting strip at Fergusson Park and were restricted to 85/6 by the Waikato country representatives. Erin Hunt and Sarah Parker both took two wickets apiece.

Quinn Robinson top scored with an unbeaten 32, as her team claimed a solid eight wicket win. Sarah Parker backed up her half century from day one with a solid 26 runs.

Hamilton also remained unbeaten in the morning play defeating Poverty Bay. The team from countries East Coast region batted first and reached 71/7. Tayla Hollis was the best of the Poverty bay batting attack with 25 runs, while Emma Walton and Sabrina Sidhu grabbed two wickets.

The Waikato City side were made to work for their win losing four wickets on the way. Thirty runs from Lucy Boucher led the way, with Phoebe Taylor returning bowling figures of two wickets for 11 runs. 

Hamilton and Poverty Bay wrapped up the afternoon games on day two. Hamilton chased down the Northland total of 112/4 for the loss of a solitary wicket. Individual highlights were Northlands Jane Litchfield with 57 not out and three wickets taken by Emma Walton. Amy Smith (56no) and Samara Clare (39no) led Hamilton to their nine wicket win. 

Poverty Bay, who have completed their tournament assignments and will sit out the bye on day three, posted 95/5 against hosts Bay of Plenty and then restricted Bay of Plenty to 47/9. Phoebe Taylor top scored with 35 runs for the victors, with Catherine Grobler the best of the Bay of Plenty batting attack with 26 runs. Bayleigh Colbert (3/6) Phoebe Taylor (3/7) Courtney Hayes (2/1) did the damage with the ball for the winners.
