ND Senior Secondary Boys Tournament Results Day 2

The only certainty, on day three of the annual ND Senior Secondary Cricket tournament being played in Gisborne this week (12/16 December 2016), is that one Bay of Plenty team will play in the two-day title decider on Thursday and Friday.

Bay of Plenty Coastland finished on top of Pool A with three straight wins, while their Lakeland counterparts finished runner-up in Pool B. The first two days results, sees the two Bay sides squaring off in the crossover semi-finals on day three,

The Coastland representatives played just over 30 overs in total, in a fifty over per side game, against Waikato Valley on day two (13 December). Waikato Valley won the toss and backed themselves to bat first, however they were in immediate trouble losing their first three wickets with just 5 runs on the board.

Bay of Plenty Development bowler Luke Tatley wreaked havoc taking four Waikato Valley bowling scalps for just 6 runs. Tatley received outstanding support from fellow Coastland bowlers, in Sean Wakelin (2/12) and Cam Riley (2/14) who also bowled line and length to good effect. Waikato Valley were rolled for just 42 runs with the third ball of the 19th over.

The Bay of Plenty team were never in trouble in spite of losing three wickets and cruised to a seven wicket victory. Josh Earle was there at the conclusion of the encounter with an unbeaten 13 runs, while Josh Healy-Ormrod hit a four to take his team to victory, at the end of the thirteenth over.

Bay of Plenty Lakeland tasted defeat for the first time at the tournament, after two T20 victories on day one, when they were beaten by Hamilton in their fifty over match-up.

The two Bay of Plenty teams, can be well pleased reaching the championship semi-finals, with the Bay of Plenty derby on day three likely to be a battle of attrition. The semi-final is a repeat of last year where Coastland defeated Lakeland to progress to the title decider.
