NZ Post Shield wrap

The Tauranga Intermediate School girls cricket team, that travelled to Lincoln in Canterbury to contest the NZ Post Shield National Finals, can be well pleased with their performances over the three days of competition. 

After two hard fought losses on day one, they rebounded to post three very good wins during the last two days.

Tauranga Intermediate School bounced back in impressive style on day two of the NZ Post Shield National Finals. The Western Bay team simply blasted Wellington representatives Raroa Normal out of the park in the morning T20 encounter. Batting first Tauranga Intermediate finished their turn at bat at 190/4. Emily Pilbrow smashed 80 of just 49 balls, with Anahera Palmer posting a solid 28 runs. 

The Tauranga School win was a walk in the park, with Raroa bowled out for just 59 to hand the ND representatives a big 151 run victory. Emily Pilbrow backed up her majestic batting with three wickets with Sophia Rose taking three wickets at a cost of just 11 runs. 

Tauranga Intermediate made it two from two on day two, against Weston Primary from Otago in the afternoon T20 game. The Tauranga bowlers removed their opponents for 84 and chased the total down with six wickets to spare. Individual highlights belonged to Emily Pilbrow who top scored with 29 runs and captain Emma Bettleheim who took three wickets and finished her turn at bat with an unbeaten 21 runs. 

Day three was a repeat of the previous day’s play, with the ND representatives setting a big target against Havelock North Intermediate and then bowling their way to victory. Emma Bettleheim belted an unbeaten 53, with Emily Pilbrow posting 29 runs at the Tauranga side reached 171 for the loss of five wickets.
