Tauranga Intermediate School Girls

Tauranga Intermediate School Girls cricket side found out about life in the fast lane of the NZ Post Shield National Finals, being played at Lincoln in Canterbury this week. The Western Bay of Plenty Intermediate School are representing Northern Districts, in the NZ Cricket tournament, where the best primary (girls) cricket teams from each major association are seeking to become the 2016 NZ Post Shield national champions.

First up on day one Tauranga Intermediate won the toss and sent Viscount Primary from Auckland into bat. The Auckland representatives posted a solid 132/6 in their twenty overs, with Emily Pilbrow taking three wickets for just 12 runs for the Western Bay side.

The Tauranga side made a determined attempt for victory but were restricted to 119 for the loss of eight wickets. Emma Bettleheim top scored with 14 runs for Tauranga Intermediate.

Tauranga Intermediate again won the toss in the afternoon encounter with Canterbury representatives Heaton Normal and asked their opponents to bat first. The ChristChurch Intermediate side posted a big score when they reached 133/5 in their twenty overs. The Tauranga School wickets were shared around with three bowlers taking a wicket apiece. However the highlight of Tauranga team’s effort was some outstanding work in the field resulting in two run-outs.

While Tauranga Intermediate batted out their allotted overs, they were restricted to 79/9 to hand a big win to the South Island side.
