Primary Boys

The two Bay of Plenty teams competing at the ND Primary Cricket tournament in Hamilton this week (28/30 November 2016) posted a win and a loss on the opening day.

Bay of Plenty Lakeland batted first against Counties Manukau and  were bowled out for 85 in the 32nd over, with Ben Doogue the best of the Lakeland batting line-up top scoring with 15 runs.

While the Bay side were defending a relatively modest total, they bowled with genuine enthusiasm, to have the opposition batsmen in some trouble. Angus and Matt Veitch along with Dylan Tamariki, all bowled economically to take two wickets apiece, as Counties reached 87/6 to take out the game.

The Bay of Plenty Coastland team made a good start on day one, when they posted 170/6 in their forty overs against the Hamilton Invitation team. Batting at four, Isaac White top scored with 43 with Dandre Du Plessis batting down the order hitting a handy 39 runs. Opener Joe Smythe got his side away to a good start with 31 runs.

While the Invitation side made a good start to their run chase, tight bowling restricted them to 141/8 after their allotted overs. Liam Collett took two wickets at a cost of just six runs with the rest of the wickets shared around. The Coastland win took their record to three from three victories, in this season’s competition.

On Sunday, Bay of Plenty Lakeland played a round one catch-up game against Northland at St Peters Collegiate. The Bay of plenty representatives took first use of the batting strip and were bowled out for 129. Karsen Dyball top scored with a hard fought 27 runs. Northland chased the runs down for the loss of just three wickets.
