Two Bay of Plenty Primary Cricket Teams To Play In ND Tournament Next Week

The two Bay of Plenty teams that are headed to the annual ND Primary Cricket tournament in Hamilton next week (28/30 November 2016), have made winning starts in the first two rounds of the annual competition.

Two rounds of competition, are followed by the annual ND Primary tournament that will take place in Hamilton next week (28/30 November 2016). Bay of Plenty have two teams in the ND Primary competition, with the Lakeland team drawn from the Eastern Bay of Plenty, Rotorua and Taupo regions while the Coastland side is selected from the Western Bay of Plenty.

Bay of Plenty Coastland played Counties Manukau in Tauranga last Sunday (20 November 2016) and produced a solid performance. The Bay team won the toss and elected to bowl and quickly had the visitors in trouble at 10/2. When Counties third wicket fell at the 69 run mark, they were back in the game, before the Coastland bowlers took control to dismiss them for 103. Ben Vyver took three wickets for 7 runs with Dandre Du Plessis returning 2/8.

Victory for the Coastland side came in the 24th over with five wickets to spare. Liam Collett top scored with 24, while Harrison Leach contributed a handy 20 runs.

Bay of Plenty Lakeland, also posted a comfortable win in round two, with victory over Poverty Bay in Whakatane. The visitors won the toss and reached 144/9 in their allotted 40 overs, with Cohen Stewart and Matt Veitch taking two wickets apiece. Matt Veitch excelled in the field throwing down the stumps twice to affect two run-outs.

The Lakeland batsmen reached their target in the 32nd over for the loss of just four wickets. Karsen Dyball was in good touch with the bat posting his team top score of 42, with Cohen Stewart and Ben Doogue also making solid contributions. A third wicket partnership between Cohen and Ben that produced 71 runs played a big part in their side’s victory.

Bay of Plenty Coastland got away to a winning start in round one against Poverty Bay in Gisborne. The Bay side batted first and were dismissed for 193, with Harrison Leach top scoring with 41 while Spencer Wills made a solid contribution with 36 runs.

The Coastland bowlers strangled the Poverty Bay batsmen’s attempts to hit out and they were restricted to just 117/4 in their allotted forty overs. Darcy Collett was the best of the Coastland bowlers taking two wickets at a cost of 10 runs.

Bay of Plenty Lakeland will play Northland in a round one catch-up match at St Paul’s Collegiate in the Waikato this Sunday (27 November 2016).
