Super 6's

A brilliant Western Bay of Plenty day, greeted the 26 teams that arrived at the Bay Oval and Blake Park, to play in the 2016 GoGirl Super Sixes on Wednesday (23 November 2016).

There were squeals of delight mixed in with plenty of hitting, catching and throwing the ball, during the rounds of play, in the Year Five and Six Girl’s cricket festival.

The GoGirl Super Sixes is the annual finale of the NZ Cricket GoGirl program, which has been delivered throughout the Bay of Plenty region by Bay of Plenty Cricket, during the last four years.

The GoGirl program is the first step in Bay of Plenty Crickets female player pathway, with the strategic aim being to build a strong junior playing base, offer innovative competitions for intermediate and secondary-school aged players, while also ensuring that the best possible opportunities exist for those players who wish to progress to higher honours.

Greenpark School took out the top three spots in the most runs scored on the day. Greenpark Diamonds posted the most runs from their Poumanu and Gems counterparts. Pongakawa Black from the extremities of the Western Bay of Plenty finished in fourth place, just ahead of the Tahatai Princess Warriors from Tahatai Coast School.

The most improved school prize went to Pahoia School with Bethlehem College Primary being given the spirit of cricket award.
