Tauranga Boys College And Greerton In Must Win Matches On Saturday

Cooney Lees Morgan Tauranga Boys College and Eves Realty Greerton, who sit in third equal place on the Baywide Cup standings, must win this weekend to have any change of reeling in the top two on the point’s ladder.

Greerton, will still be hurting from the defeat handed out by Caruss Mount Maunganui, when they two sides squared off in the first round of the Baywide Cup in October. Mount Maunganui won the toss and ripped through the Greerton batting line-up, bowling them out for just 72. Dale Swan, in just his second game as his teams premier captain, led the way taking four wickets for only 6 runs with Nick Smith grabbing three Greerton bowling scalps. The home team reply got them home with six wickets to spare.

After sitting at the bottom of the Baywide Cup standings after their first two games, Greerton have got their Baywide campaign back on track, with two wins and a winning and losing draw. While Greerton have lost opening batsman Tom MacRury, to Bay of Plenty representative duty, skipper Shane Wineti and Cam Neal are two batsmen that are genuine match winners when in the groove with the willow.

Tauranga Boys College, will be at home at their temporary base at Blake Park three against competition leaders Element IMF Cadets. Both teams have lost regular team members to the Bay of Plenty verses Northland at the adjoining Bay Oval. The first Baywide Cup meeting between the two sides saw the encounter abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Cadets, Scott Steward and Morton Freer who sit in the top ten in the Baywide batting stakes, along with Ben Christensen, give Cadets plenty of batting firepower. Tauranga Boys Sean Wakelin, who has made his Bay of Plenty development debut in recent weeks, is a genuine all-rounder with plenty of runs and nine wickets to his name.

New World Te Puke are on the road to the Sulphur City to meet Bayleys Central Indians at Smallbone Park. Te Puke pulled off one of the upsets of the season last weekend, when they handed Mount Maunganui their first defeat of the Baywide Cup title race. Central Indians, who sit at the bottom of the standings, are a real enigma with plenty of talent in their ranks but they have failed to fire on the field in the current season.
