Carrus Mount Maunganui And New World Te Puke Kick Off Round Two At The Te Puke Domain

The Baywide Cup second round kicks off on Saturday (19 November 2016) with just three points separating Carrus Mount Maunganui and Element IMF Cadets at the top of the standings.

Mount Maunganui will square off with New World Te Puke at the Te Puke Domain, with their first meeting of the season resulting in a winning draw to Mount Maunganui. The entry of Mount new recruit Brenton Thompson and Ben Musgrave took the momentum away from the Te Puke bowlers, with the mount posting an impressive 264/3. Musgrave was in good touch with the bat to finish with an unbeaten 88 with his partner posting 67 not out.

Te Puke were in early trouble before the middle and lower order set their sights on picking up some points from the encounter. In spite of a dogged attempt from the Mount bowlers to bowl the visitors out, the Te Puke batsmen batted out their overs to finish at 113/8. Josh Earle top scored with 26 not out, with Knights attack bowler Tony Goodin finishing with three wickets at a cost of 39 runs.

Defending Baywide Cup champions Eves Realty Greerton, will want to erase their first-up loss to Cadets, when Cadets pay a visit to Pemberton Park on Saturday. Cadets pace bowler Donovan Deeble did the damage taking five wickets for 19 runs as Greerton were bundled out for 110. Cadets then cruised to victory for the loss of a solitary wicket. Sean Davey took control to top score with an unbeaten 65, with Joe Carter contributing 38no.

However since their first-up loss, Greerton have worked their way back into contention and currently sit in third place on the standings, Lat week they bowled Bayleys Central Indians out for just 85, with Dan Spencer (4/19) and Murray Jarvis (3/20) both bowling with real enthusiasm.

The reversal of the first round home venues, will see Cooney Lees Morgan Tauranga Boys College travel to the Sulphur City, to play Central Indians at Smallbone Park. In their first meeting of the season Central Indians batted first and were removed for 152, with Iman Singh starting a run of form that saw the youngster earn selection for the Bay of Plenty representative team last weekend, with three wickets.

The sole Rotorua representatives in the Baywide Cup sit at the bottom of the standings after round one, however they have enough individual talent in the ranks, to make an impression in the second half of the Baywide competition title race.
