ND Primary Representative Cricket Kicks Off This Sunday

The ND Primary representative cricket competition kicks off this Sunday (13 November 2016) with one Bay of Plenty Coastland team travelling to Gisborne for the  first round encounter.

Bay of Plenty Coastland and Lakeland will play the first two rounds over the next few weekends, before finishing the competition at the annual ND Primary tournament in Hamilton 28th to the 30th November 2016.

The Lakeland team is drawn from the Eastern Bay of Plenty, Rotorua and Taupo regions with the Coastland side selected from the Western Bay of Plenty. During the ND competition, the two Bay of Plenty teams will play their Northland, Counties Manukau, Hamilton, Waikato Valley and Poverty Bay counterparts.

The Lakeland and Coastland Primary teams, have become the start of the Bay of Plenty Cricket age-group pathway, which has produced a myriad of professional and senior representatives players in the last couple of decades. 2004 turned out to be a vintage year for Bay of Plenty primary players, with current Black Caps Kane Williamson and Doug Bracewell and Northern Knights batting star Bharat Popli selected in the Coastlands side.

The last day of the ND tournament in Hamilton will see the two Bay of Plenty sides square off to decide current season Bay of Plenty honours. Last year Coastland emerged victorious in the annual Bay of Plenty battle after they batted first and posted 179/9, before bowling Lakeland out for 106, to claim victory.
