Bay Of Plenty Development Taste Defeat In The Garden City

The Bay of Plenty Development team, went into their Basil McBurney Trophy game against long-time rivals Hamilton at Galloway Park in the Waikato Garden City, chasing their third successive 2016/17 victory.

Batting first the Bay of Plenty second eleven posted a respectable 212 all out. Young Te Puke premier batsmen Jonty Grigson was in good touch to top score with an unbeaten 60 runs. Bay keeper Matt Golding posted a gritty 30 with Brenton Thompson and skipper Stephen Crossan both reaching the twenties.

While a number of the Bay players got starts, the Bay of Plenty total looked under threat on a wicket that seemed to have plenty of runs in it.

Hamilton batsmen Michael Dodunski simply took the game away from the visitors, as he worked his way to a century, with the hosts grabbing the win points on offer with eight wickets to spare. Some indifferent work from the Bay of Plenty fielders didn’t help their chances.

With two wins and a loss from their opening three Basil McBurney campaign games, the Bay of Plenty representatives are still in the hunt to capture the ND Second Eleven trophy. However they have a two and a half month wait to their final game of the season. They will sit out the bye on the 22 January 2017, before playing their last Basil McBurney match against Waikato Valley at the Cambridge Square in the Waikato on Sunday 12 February 2017.
