24 Players named in ND Squads

The Bay of Plenty Cricket pathway, which gives youngsters entering the game the opportunity to progress in structured steps to professional and senior representative cricket, has again produced a sizeable group of youngsters who have been selected for 2016 ND Junior High Performance Squads.

Twenty-four Bay of Plenty age-group players will attend Emerging Spirit, High Performance Emerging Players and Indentified Players winter training. The programs are co-ordinated by the ND Director of High Performance, Peter Zanzottera

The ND age-group curriculum will encompass a series of multi-day camps, one-on-one coaching with specialist coaches and personal development opportunities along with invitations to ND Roadshow visits to the Bay of Plenty.

Bay of Plenty Cricket – Cricket Manager, Tai Bridgman-Raison said “A key part of the Bay of Plenty player development programs, is alignment with what Northern Districts are offering their identified athletes, ensuring we are delivering consistent messages and allowing a smoother transition as players make the step-up into the ND programs”.

“Northern Districts Cricket runs a comprehensive program and it is pleasing to have a strong representative from the Bay across the different squads”. “The more players we have involved, the more beneficial it is for cricket in this region, as they share the knowledge they have acquired during their time in the Northern Districts setup with their school and club team mates”.

Bay of Plenty Senior Women’s players, Briana Perry, Nensi Patel and Macy Adams have been selected for the Northern Spirit Emerging players group. All three were members of the Bay of Plenty Secondary Schoolgirls side, whichwon the 2015 ND Secondary Schoolgirls tournament with an unbeaten record.

Rotorua age-group players Alastair Blackett and Tom Yarrall will join Shaun Dykes, Marcel Collett, Blair McKenzie and Mikaere Leef from the Western Bay, in the ND High Performance Emerging Players squad. The six Bay of Plenty players have all progressed through selection for the Bay in ND age-group tournaments.

The largest Bay of Plenty group to be selected is the ND Age-Group Indentified Players, where the players have demonstrated raw talent, which will see the youngsters soak up the coaching like sponges.
