What Happened in Bay of Plenty Cricket Last Week

It was a busy weekend for the Baywide premier players who played two rounds of the Venture Developments T20 series - and the Bay of Plenty Women's side who had four matches in a ND pre-season competition hit-out.

Bond & Co Mount Maunganui sit at the top of the T20 standings with three straight victories, while Eves Realty Greerton lurk just behind with two wins from their two completed encounters.

The early round on the second day of the new season, saw Mount Maunganui defend 162 for the loss of nine wickets, against Papamoa. Gagandeep Singh Samra, batting at the top of the innings, finished with his sides top score of 36.

Element IMF Cadets posted the first of their two wins of the day when they chased down Sanford Wall Lawyers Central Indians target of 167. The combined teams skipper, Jeff Simmons, was the best of their batters reaching 71 from only 34 balls.

Cadets Marcel Collett, finished his turn at bat on 99 not out, when the Western Bay side reached the required runs for the loss of seven wickets. Craig's Investment Partners Tauranga Boys College and Generation Homes Lake Taupo also collected the win points of offer, in round three.

Big hitting Greerton opening batsman, Tom MacRury, was another to get within touching distance of a century, against Lake Taupo. The visitors posted a solid 160/5 with the Western Bay team reaching their target with seven wickets in hand.

Papamoa grabbed their first victory of the competition after they chased down Flying Mullet Te Puke's 145 for eight wickets. Xavier Lee anchored the Papamoa run chase with a hard fought 61 runs.

Cadets notched up their second win with a 33 run victory against Craigs Investment Partners Geyser City with Mount Maunganui beating Central Indians.

Tauranga Boys College the bye

The Craigs Investment Partners Bay of Plenty Women's team, had a very successful four game pre-season hit-out in the National Women's Club T20 title tournament, played at Napier over the weekend.

Playing by invitation, the Bay side fine tuned their cricket skills with four straight victories. First up they gave the host side a cricket lesson, posting 140/9, then restricting their opponents to 32/9. The Bay of Plenty individual stars were Nensi Patel with 56 runs and Mayelan Opperman who took three wickets for four runs on debut.

Saturdays two T20 matches, against Parnell and Upper Hutt both produced positive results, with Tash Wakelin top scoring in both games, with 67 and 51 runs in the scorebook.

Sundays playoff against Napier Cricket Club resulted in one-way traffic with a six wicket win. Napier were removed for 46 with Bay of Plenty getting home for the loss of just four wickets.
