CRAIGS INVESTMENT PARTNER SENIOR MENS 2022/2023 SEASON RECAP

The Craigs Investment Partners Senior Mens cricket season started with a Two Day match against Northland. Northland won the toss and opted to bat. Where they scored 251/10 (86.1), with Iman Singh taking 3-29 off his 12 overs and Josh Earle taking 2-38.

Bay of Plenty responded with 302/5 in 86 overs. Fergus Lellman scored 119 where he faced 186 balls. While Ben Pomare scored 55 not out and Marcel Collett scored at a steady rate with 51 runs from 152 balls.

Bay of Plenty came away with their first win of the season. Winning on the first innings.

Round two was a bye, while round three against Counties Manukau in a One Day match at Mountfort Park was abandoned due to weather conditions.

In round four, Bay of Plenty won the toss and elected to bat in a One Day match against Hamilton at Bay Oval. Bay of Plenty scored 158 after being bowled all out in 47.3 overs. M Collett scored 48 off 94 balls and Blair McKenzie scoring the next best of 29.

Hamilton responded with 159/6 (42.2), after both bowling 9 overs Liam Collett had the best bowling figures as took he 2 wickets for 30 runs and Craig Baldry in a close second as he took 2-33.

Although it wasn’t quite enough for Bay of Plenty, Hamilton won by 4 wickets.

Round five to nine were part of a T20 Competition called Northern Brave Smash.

In round five and the first game of T20’s against Counties Manukau, Bay of Plenty won the toss and elected to bowl due to the condition of the grounds.

Counties Manukau scored 117/6 (13), with Dominic Crombie taking 3 wickets for 34 runs in 3 overs and Tom Macrury taking 2 wickets for 5 runs in his 2 overs.

In response, Bay of Plenty scored 118/4 in a short 11.1 overs. With Pomare scoring 51 (29), Lellman scoring 27 (12), and McKenzie (27*) contributing an unbeaten 27 runs in 17 balls.

Adding another win, Bay of Plenty won by 6 wickets according to the DLS.

Taking on Waikato Valley, Bay of Plenty was put to bat after losing the toss. Where they lost 8 wickets and put 178 on the board after batting the full 20 overs. Andrew Mascall top scored with 61 runs, while both McKenzie and Ollie Curtis scored 27 runs. Fortunately for Bay of Plenty, Waikato Valley fell short by 8 runs, scoring 170/7 after their 20 overs. Crombie picked up 2 wickets restricting Waikato Valley to 19 runs off his bowling. Earle bowled 4 overs where he picked his figures of 2-44 up.

Bay of Plenty won by 8 runs and picked up their third win for the season.

In the seventh round against Northland, our Bay of Plenty men's team lost the toss, and Northland chose to bat first. Northland scored 153/4 in their 20 overs, with Baldry taking 2-22 and Ollie Curtis taking 1-22. Bay of Plenty's response was 150/8 in 20 overs, with Lellman making 52 off 35 balls and Tom Macrury contributing 36 off 31 balls. Unfortunately, Bay of Plenty’s efforts were not enough, and Northland won by 6 wickets.

Round eight and nine against Hamilton and Northern Districts U19 respectively, were cancelled. Bay of Plenty had a bye in round 10.

Bay of Plenty's men's cricket team faced a mixed bag of results in their recent matches.

In round eleven against Waikato Valley, played at Te Puke Domain, Waikato won the toss and elected to bowl. Bay of Plenty put up a strong total of 283/9 off 50 overs, with Bharat Popli scoring 60 off 75 balls, McKenzie scoring 55 and Pomare contributing 41 runs off just 35 balls. Waikato Valley could only manage 134/10 off 25.3 overs in response, with Iman Singh taking 4-28 off 5.3 overs, Baldry took 3-55 off 4 overs, and Earle taking 2-14.

Bay of Plenty won by a convincing 149 runs under DLS.

Unfortunately, the following matches didn't go as planned for Bay of Plenty. Round twelve, a Two Day match against Hamilton at Galloway Park, and round thirteen, a One Day match against Northland at Bourne Dean Park, were abandoned due to flooding and Cyclone Gabrielle.

Bay of Plenty faced Waikato Valley in a two-day match at St Pauls Collegiate. Waikato won the toss and decided to bat first, setting a total of 344 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in 100.3 overs. Pete Drysdale took 5 wickets for 80 runs in 24.3 overs, while Baldry took 2 wickets for 91 runs in his 30 over spell.

In response, Bay of Plenty Cricket team scored 222 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in 88.4 overs. M Collett scored 58 runs off 127 balls, Singh scored 48 runs and Earle (31*) remained unbeaten at 31 runs off 76 balls. In the second innings, Bay of Plenty scored 56 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 13 overs, with Pete Drysdale top score with 25 runs off 35 balls. Waikato Valley won on the first innings.

In their final match of the season, Bay of Plenty Cricket team faced Counties Manukau at Bay Oval in a two-day match. Counties won the toss and chose to bat first, scoring 224 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in 88 overs. Baldry took 5 wickets for 76 runs in 39 overs, while Earle took 3 wickets for 37 runs. In reply, Bay of Plenty were all out for 188. A strong performance from Ben Pomare (95) and Blair McKenzie (56) was the highlight of the innings forming a 145 run partnership for the 3rdwicket.

With 50 overs left in the day, both sides attempted to force an outright result. Bay of Plenty restricted Counties Manukau to 142 for 9 (declared) off 33 overs. Craig Baldry continued his first innings form claiming 4 further wickets to his match total whilst Iman Singh picked up 4 wickets also. With a target of 178 runs in 17 overs, the chase was a tough ask for the Bay of Plenty side as they managed 120 for 6 off their 17 overs. Marcel Collet was unbeaten on 43* whilst Niven Dovey scored a quick fire 29 off 12 balls.

However, their efforts and luck wasn’t quite there. Counties Manukau won on the first innings.
