The Bay of Plenty U16 girls cricket team participated in two T20 matches at Waikato University in Hamilton over the weekend. With Northern Districts players Holly Topp and Nensi Patel as coaches.
In the first game against Hamilton, Bay of Plenty restricted their opponents to 80 for 5 after 20 overs. Meanwhile, with 9 wickets in hand at the end of their 14 overs, they easily chased down the target of 81 for 1, with Jess Benge (25*) and Sadie Stewart (21*) leading the scoring.
With Sadie Stewart, Jess Benge, Maia Basile and Rachel Duffet taking a wicket each.
In the second game against Counties, Bay of Plenty batted first and put up 104 runs, losing 6 wickets. With Rachel Duffet not out on 39 runs and Amelia Grason (21) the lead scorers for the second game. Despite batting out the full 20 overs, they had 4 wickets in hand and had to put pressure on Counties. Bay of Plenty's Sadie Stewart claimed 5 wickets, while Mayelen Opperman took 2 wickets, restricting Counties to 92 runs and securing a win for Bay of Plenty.
