BOPCA WOMEN’S TEAM MAKING HISTORY
This weekend will see history being made with the first senior women’s Bay of Plenty team representing the region.
The team heading down to play in the Hawke’s Bay T20 Women's Invitational is the result of years of development in the female space, culminating in a surge of age group female cricket in the bay.
Coach, Kingsley Smith sees this as a huge step towards a strong and sustainable women's game and is looking forward to seeing the hard work the team has put in over the last few months come to fruition on the field.
“Being Bay of Plenty born and bred I am excited to be part of the inaugural Bay of Plenty Senior women’s team that paves the way for a sustainable platform that attracts future, present and past players to the game”.
BOPCA Chair, Emma Talbot, is grateful for those who have put in the time and hard work that has gone into making this trip possible and will continue to support the growth of women’s cricket in the region.
“This team is held together with a massive support system of volunteers, who have given their time to train the players and arrange the trip south. The women's game continues to grow throughout the region, and we will look for ways to further support this team for future tournaments and playing opportunities.”
