TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT FERGUS HICKEY ROUND 5

Posted: Friday, 18 March 2022

It is a fresh faced Craigs Investment Partners Bay of Plenty Men's team that will head over the Bombay's to play Counties Manukau in the last representative game of the season.

A combination of Covid, injuries and higher representative duties has resulted in 4 debutants and a new captain. Sebastian Heath, Sam Lund, Andrew Mascall and Billy Syme have been rewarded for their club cricket performances throughout the season with a call up into the bay team.

Coach Daniel Flynn is looking forward to giving the debutants a crack at representative cricket and seeing what they can bring to the side.

"Seb is an exciting young wicket keeper batter at TBC that we think has the potential to slot in when we lose Ben Pomare to higher honours. Andy Mascall has impressed both with his batting and leadership of a young Cadets side - we look forward to what he can bring not just with the bat but to the group as a whole. Sam Lund has consistently made the trip over from Rotorua to attend weekly trainings displaying the kind of commitment that instantly earns respect amongst the group and he has earnt through consistent performances at club level. Billy’s a talented up and coming allrounder that we think has a bright future and this game presents a great opportunity for him to get a taste of senior rep cricket."

At only 15, Heath will be the 3rd youngest player to represent the Bay of Plenty, slotting in between Kane Williamson (15 years 111 days) and Mathew Heart (15 years 274 days). Flynn himself is 5th on the list, debuting for the bay at 15 years 333 days and will be making sure he goes out there an enjoys himself and the opportunity to test his skills at a higher level.

The other notable change is the captaincy with Dominic Crombie at the helm for the first time - something that Crombie is extremely proud of.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to captain the Bay team. It’s a privilege to lead such a talented group of men."
