VERSATILE TAURANGA WILLIAMS CUP ROUND 3

After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, the Element IMF Otumoetai Cadets got off to a positive start with opener Marcel Collett hitting 2 boundaries in the first over. Things slowed when fellow opener Chris Mascall departed in the 6th over. Wickets fell steadily after that point and the Cadets found themselves 115 with 8 down in the 28th over. A 51 run, 9th wicket partnership between Isaac White (33) and Josh Dempsey (17*) got their side to a slightly more defenable 166.

It was a matter of slow and steady winning the race for Bond & Co Mount Maunganui as Pete Drysdale and Kade Smit put on an opening stand of 66 from 143 balls. Jono Boult gave the Cadets a glimmer of hope as he took 3 wickets in 12 overs but Niven Dovey and Dominic Crombie got their team across the line with 5 overs to spare

Element IMF Otumoetai Cadets 166/10, 43.4 overs (Marcel Collett 37, Isaac White 33, Jono Boult 28; Pete Drysdale 4/31)
Bond & Co Mount Maunganui 167/3, 45 overs (Kade Smit 64, Niven Dovey 49, Pete Drysdale 23; Jono Boult 3/29)
Bond & Co Mount Maunganui won by 7 wickets

Coming off a comprehensive win in the last round, The Flying Mullet Te Puke made the trip to Rotorua to face the Bayleys Central Indians who were unbeaten in the Versatile Tauranga Williams Cup thus far.

It was a dream start for Te Puke as they dismissed Central's opening pair for 13 runs off 33 balls and were putting the home team under pressure when they dismissed Stephen Nicholls in the 14 over with 48 runs on the board.

Nadeera Nawela (47) and Cody Fell (97*) anchored the innings and captain Julian Danby came in at 7 and contributed an impressive 51, setting Te Puke 247 to win at almost 5 an over.

Not satisfied with his 104 last weekend, Tai Bridgman-Raison smashed 12 4s and 2 6s in his 121 run innings (51% of his teams total runs). Wickets fell steadily on the other end and when he got out in the last over with 12 to get and 9 wickets down it was too much of a tough ask with the Central-Indians winning by 10 runs.

Bayleys Central-Indians 246/6, 50 overs (Cody Fell 97*, Julian Danby 51, Nadeera Nawela 47; Mikaere Leef 2/37)
The Flying Mullet Te Puke 236/10, 49.4 overs (Tai Bridgman-Raison 121, Blair McKenzie 35, Cameron Riley 33; Cody Fell 3/42)
Bayleys Central-Indians won by 10 runs

A 69 run 1st wicket partnership between Tom MacRury and Ben Lind set the tone for Eves Realty Greerton as they cruised to 270 against Craigs Investment Partners Geyser City. Contributions right down the batting order including some big hitting from Daniel Price (53) set Geyser a big total and a run rate of 5.40 to better for a victory.

It was a positive start from Geyser City as they put on 42 in 8 overs before they lost Vinay Pathania (33) caught and bowled. Goldendeep Brar's 55 off 45 balls was a highlight but when he was bowled by Tom MacRury in the 27th over with 135 still to get, the task was too big and they were bowled out in the 40th over - 102 short.

Eves Realty Greerton 270/7 (Tom MacRury 75, Daniel Price 53, Pip Thickpenny 36; Goldendeep Brar 2/49)
Craigs Investment Partners Geyser City 168/10, 39.3 overs (Goldendeep Brar 55, Vinay Pathania 33, Jasvinder Singh 28; Pip Thickpenny 3/8)
Eves Realty Greerton won by 102 runs

With both teams searching for their first win of 2022, Generation Homes Lake Taupo took a trip to Papamoa and decided to get some runs on the board after winning the toss.

Lake Taupo got off to a flying start with 11 off the first over, including a 4 and a 6 from Luke Woods but the fireworks didn't last long and when Woods was dismissed in the 9th over for 23, Taupo struggled to string together a solid partnership and were bowled out in 44 overs for 153 (with the help of 21 runs that came from extras).

A 44 run opening stand from Aaron Barbour and Nikhil Viswanath laid a solid foundation for the home team and allowed Vishwanath to let loose with an impressive 89 not out off 85 balls. Papamoa hitting the winning runs in the 30th over, with 5 wickets down.

Generation Homes Lake Taupo 153/10, 44 overs (Luke Woods 23, Jerome Dyer 21, Jesse Down 19; Reece Shelton 3/26)
Papamoa 154/5, 30 overs (Nikhil Vishwanath 89*, Ryan Balsom 14*, Ashish Dhameliya 14; Michael Mitchell 2/19)
Papamoa won by 5 wickets

BAYWIDE CUP T20 QUATER FINALS

Sunday = Finals day with the two Baywide Cup quarter finals deciding who was going to move onto the semis with Mount Maunganui and the Cadets.

Over in Rotorua, the Bayleys Central-Indians who came 2nd in Pool 1 played Eves Realty Greerton who came 3rd in Pool 2.

Central started slow with the bat and were 8-1 in the 3rd over when Mitchell Kane came in and blasted 20 off 11 balls before being bowled by Israel Turner in the 7th over. Aside from Daniel Ford, Mitchell Kane and Ben Sandford no one reached double figures and Central were all out for 95.

Greerton weren't mucking around, showing their intent by posting 12 runs in the first over. Known to hit a huge ball, Northern Districts representative Brett Hampton came in at 3 and posted 51 not out off 28 balls to well and truly take the game away from Central.  A 20 run over with 3 sixes hit sealed the semi final spot for Greerton in the 12th over.

Bayleys Central-Indians 95/10, 18.1 overs (Daniel Ford 25, Mitchell Kane 20; Harrison Perry 3/16)
Eves Realty Greerton 96/2, 12 overs (Brett Hampton 51, Tom MacRury 26; Andrew Gibbs 2/33)
Eves Realty Greerton won by 8 wickets

Over in Te Puke, Papamoa were vying for their first finals appearance when they came up against The Flying Mullet Te Puke. It was a shaky start for the home side with the bat as they found themselves 1-1 in the first over and then 2-2 in the second. If ever there was a perfect time for a captain's knock, it was now...and Blair McKenzie delivered with a 53 ball 65 before he was dismissed in the 16th over. Iman Singh kept the positive stroke play going with 36 off 28 balls and contributions from Tai Bridgeman-Raison (15*) and Cameron Riley (14*) put Te Puke in the box seat with 146 on the board.

Papamoa was like a bull out of the gate with 53 runs coming from 4.3 overs. Things slowed with opener Nikhil Vishwanath was run out on 23 off 14 but Papamoa were looking good at 111/3 when another run out claimed Ashish Dhameliya in the 15th over and only managed an extra 27 runs from that point on, losing by 8 runs.

The Flying Mullet Te Puke 146/5, 20 overs (Blair McKenzie 65, Iman Singh 36; Paul Inglis 2/21)
Papamoa 138/9, 20 overs (Xavier Lea 29, Aman Mahal 29; Ben Roborgh 2/12)
