Ben Christensen Produces Best Bowling Figures Of The Baywide Season

Long-time Cadets player Ben Christensen, produced the best Baywide bowling figures of the season, ripping through Te Puke batting attack to take six wickets at a cost of just 13 runs on Saturday (25 February 2017).

Cadets batted first at the Te Puke Domain and were bowled out for what looked to be a modest 153. Cadets skipper Scott Steward anchored his team innings with a gritty 55 runs. Cam Riley did plenty of damage with the ball grabbing a five wicket bag while Jonty Grigson returned 3/15.

Then began a procession of Te Puke batsmen coming and going at the crease, as Ben Christensen ripped out six opposition batsmen, with the home side removed for 85. Josh Early earned respectability at the crease with his sides top score of 25.

Mount Maunganui overcame some early speed bumps at the crease, as they took home a six wicket win over Central Indians in Rotorua. The combined side batted first and were in some strife at 60 for the loss of five wickets. An unbeaten knock of 66, from Central Indians co-captain Andrew Gibbs took them through to 180 all out. Nathan Moffatt was the best of the visitors bowlers taking three wickets.

Mount Maunganui were in early trouble, with just 8 runs on the board for the loss of two wickets. However Ben Guild took control to top score with an undefeated 61, with Logan Dench also there at the conclusion of the encounter with a neat half century.

Greerton chased down the Tauranga Boys total of 200/9, with seven wickets to spare and almost certainly booked a place in the Williams Cup semi-finals. Mikaere Leef (40) Ben Pomare (36) Dominic Crombie (29) and Iman Singh (25) all made useful contribution in the Tauranga Boys turn at bat.

Greerton captain Shane Wineti led his team home to victory with 60 runs, with Lee Watkins producing an unbeaten 55. The Greerton victory, sees them just seven points in arrears of Mount Maunganui and Cadets in the Williams Cup title race.
