VITAL VERSATILE TAURANGA WILLIAMS CUP CLASH AT PEMBERTON PARK

VITAL VERSATILE TAURANGA WILLIAMS CUP CLASH AT PEMBERTON PARK

Posted: Thursday, 4 March 2021

With just two rounds of the Versatile Tauranga Williams Cup before the playoffs arrive, there is no more vital encounter this Saturday (6 March 2021) than the top of the table clash at Pemberton Park, between Eves Realty Greerton and Bayleys Central Indians.

Greerton will take an unbeaten record into the match-up, with the Rotorua combined sides only loss coming last weekend. A Greerton win would almost certainly book them a berth in the top-two playoffs, with a Central Indians win, giving them a good shot at a top two finish.

Central Indians batsman Bharat Popli has been in outstanding form in the Baywide competition, belting a remarkable 404 runs including two centuries, in just four matches. The match-up with Greerton master blaster Cameron Neal, who smacked a double century a few weeks ago, could produce a run fest at the Tauranga suburban park.

Greerton attack bowler Daniel Spencer and leggie James Boyd, sit at the top of the Williams Cup bowling stakes, to give the home sides plenty of bowling options. Central Indians skipper Stephen Nicholls and veteran Andrew Gibbs are likely to trouble the Greerton batting attack.

Another vital game will take place at the Tauranga Domain, between the third and fourth placed sides, where Element IMF Cadets will host Bond & Co Mount Maunganui. Both sides are multiple Williams Cup titleholders and know all about the pressures of playing championship cricket.

Generation Homes Lake Taupo will relish home track advantage, when Holland Beckett Law Tauranga Boys College, pay a visit to the Great Lake region on Saturday. Both sides have had their winning moments during the Baywide season with the match likely to go into the early evening.

Papamoa and Craigs Investment Partners Geyser, will round out the penultimate Williams Cup qualifying round, at the Alice Johnson Oval in Papamoa. The relatively new grass wicket block, has proved a worthy addition to the Western Bay grass wickets stocks, which give the premier competition players high quality wickets to play on each week.
