With 8 players away on Bay of Plenty rep duties, the Bond & Co Mount Maunganui side had a different look about it when they played Papamoa on Blake Park.

After winning the toss and deciding to bowl first, the Papamoa opening bowlers started well, only conceding 2 runs off the first 4 overs. That was the end of the run drought for Mount Maunganui with only 4 more maidens in their 50 overs.

A polished 82 run partnership between Kade Smit (43) and Brett Randell (58) and then a 50 run, 4th wicket partnership between Randell and Ben Musgrave put the marlins in the box seat and allowed Musgrave to play with freedom as he belted 75 off 73 balls and helped set Papamoa the mammoth task of chasing down 273.

The run chase didn't start well for Papamoa and they soon found themselves 7 down with only 46 on the board in the 16th over.
