Two Bay of Plenty Teams to Play a Double-Header in Hamilton This Weekend

Senior Men & Development Teams Face Hamilton Counterparts

A Bay of Plenty Cricket representative double-header, will match the Bay Senior Men’s side and the regions Development team, against their Hamilton counterparts at Galloway Park in Hamilton during the weekend (2/3 February 2019).

Both Bay of Plenty teams go into their respective contests against their long-time Waikato Capital City rivals with solid season form.

The Bay of Plenty Senior Men’s team, ended the ND Twenty 20 tournament held in Taupo in December 2018, with the Northern Districts trophy, after beating of the challenges laid down the five other ND minor associations. Bay of Plenty’s dominance of the Twenty 20 tournament was shown in the margins of their eight wickets, 83 runs, eight wickets, 67 runs and 109 run victories over Poverty Bay, Northland, Counties Manukau, Hamilton and Waikato Valley respectively.

The Bay of Plenty Development representatives kicked off their Basil McBurney Trophy campaign, with a heartbreaking three run loss to Poverty Bay, as the attempted to chase down 240 runs for victory. This Sundays encounter with Hamilton Development replaces a rained off match before the holiday break.

Three weeks ago, the Bay of Plenty second eleven travelled to Taupo to play Hawkes Bay, in a “friendly” encounter, as the two sides prepared for their respective second half of the season campaigns. Bay of Plenty were removed for 241 and then bowled their opponents out for 189, to claim a solid victory.

Niven Dovey and Dillon Preston, will make their Bay of Plenty Development debut against Hamilton. Niven Dovey, earned selection for the ND Under 17 team that competed at the National tournament in January 2019, with Dillon Preston selected as a non-travelling reserve.
