TAURANGA BOYS COLLEGE LAY DOWN THE CHALLENGE IN THE HAVANA EATERY BAYWIDE T20

The Havana Eatery Baywide T20 championship kicked off on Thursday (3 December 2020) evening, with Holland Beckett Law Tauranga Boys College laying down the challenge to the other contenders, when they beat Baywide heavyweights Element IMF Cadets.

Tauranga Boys batted first and were in rampant form belting 161 for the loss of just two wickets. Player/Coach Tim Clarke was in top form with an unbeaten 59, while Tim Pringle posted 40 not out. 

Cadets made a good start to the big run chase, with their first wicket falling with 64 runs on the board. At 141/8, Cadets were playing catch-up, before they finished their innings at 154/9 to give Tauranga Boys a first up T20 victory. Fergus Lellman top scored with 53 runs with Tim Pringle taking four wickets for the victors.

Generation Homes Lake Taupo, posted 99 runs with just one wicket to spare, in their encounter with Bayleys Central Indians at Owen Delany Park in Taupo. Michael Mitchell finished with 25 runs alongside his name. Evergreen Central Indians bowler Andrew Gibbs, showed he was still bowling as well as ever, with four wickets at a cost of just 8 runs. 

The visitors wasted little time in getting home for the points on offer, with six wickets to spare, with Ben Sanford leading the way with 33 runs.

Bond & Co Mount Maunganui, who are gunning for their third successive Baywide T20 title, chased down the Papamoa offering of 106 all out. Former Black Cap Matt Horne, was the best of his sides batting attack with 26 runs, with Dominic Crombie taking four wickets at a cost of 14 runs.

Mount Maunganui were well on the way to victory when their first wicket fell, with 45 runs on the board. Niven Dovey, who has recently transferred back to the Mount from Tauranga Boys College, led his side home with an unbeaten 32.

Pool One: Papamoa 106 (Matt Horne 26; Dominic Crombie 4/14) lost to Bond & Co Mount Maunganui 109/3 (Niven Dovey 32no) Flying Mullet Te Puke the bye.

Pool Two: Generation Homes Lake Taupo 99/7 (Michael Mitchell 25; Andrew Gibbs 4/8) lost to Bayleys Central Indians 100/4 (Ben Sandford 33) Craigs Investment Partners Geyser the bye.

Pool Three: Holland Beckett Law Tauranga Boys College 161/2 (Tim Clarke 59no, Tim Pringle 40no) defeated Element IMF Cadets 154/9 (Fergus Lellman 53; Tim Pringle 4/24) Eves Realty Greerton the bye.
