Six Bay Of Plenty Age-Group Players Earn Northern Districts Selection

Posted: Friday, 4 January 2019

Congratulations to Our Bay players

The arrival home of Bay of Plenty’s Black Cap super-stars Kane Williamson and Trent Boult, to play Sri Lanka at the Bay Oval, has coincided with the announcement of six Bay age-group players taking their initial steps on the same cricket pathway as the two local heroes.

Briana Perry, Nensi Patel and Holly Topp, will travel to Wellington to represent Northern Districts at a NZC Major Association Under 18 Women’s tournament in Mid-January 2019.

All three Bay of Plenty young women’s players will bring plenty of top class experience to the ND side. Nensi and Briana have both experienced time in the middle for the ND Women’s flagship of the Northern Spirit. Nensi has taken 13 wickets in 19 ND appearances while Briana has 61 runs to her name from 8 games. Holly has back to back ND Under 21 Women’s appearances in her cricket CV.

Tim Pringle and Niven Dovey, have earned selection for the Northern Districts side to play at the NZ Cricket Under 17 National Tournament in Canterbury 13-21 January 2019.

Tim Pringle grabbed his own piece of Bay of Plenty Cricket history last season, when he became the youngest Bay of Plenty senior men’s player at 15 years 92 days, which surpassed Kane Williamson’s debut at 15 years 111 days.

Pringle made his mark in his debut season in the Bay of Plenty Senior Men’s side, with 15 wickets, from nine Bay of Plenty appearances. Tim has continued on in the current cricket year, performing with distinction for Northern Districts at the recent NZ Cricket Under 19 National tournament.

In the current season, Niven Dovey has successfully made the step up to the ND Senior Secondary representative ranks, after outstanding success in the ND Junior Secondary tournament twelve months ago. Dovey achieved a rare feat, at the 2017 ND Junior Secondary tournament, in belting a century (119) and taking a six wicket bag (6/11).

Tauranga Boys College player Dillon Preston, grabbed the selector’s attention, to be chosen as a ND Under 17 team non-travelling reserve.

Jorja Neil, who is a product of the Taupo Cricket junior cricket nursery, has blossomed in the past twelve months. Jorja was one of the youngest players at the ND Secondary Schoolgirls played during December 2018. Such is her passion to play, that her family brings her from Turangi to Tauranga, to play and train during the cricket season.
