Northern Knights have advantage

The Northern Knights have a solid advantage in the Plunket Shield game at the Bay Oval, as they chase an outright victory against the Wellington Firebirds, in the ND sides penultimate first class game of the season.

The visitors to Blake Park won the toss and elected to bat on Tuesday (21 March 217) morning. A solid bowling display from the Northern Knights removed the Wellington batsmen late on day one, for a modest 15. .Joe Walker who bowls right arm off-breaks was in top form, taking five wickets for 46 runs, while Black Cap spinner Ish Sodhi grabbed two bowling scalps.

The home side lost an early wicket and resumed on day two at 11/1. Batting at three, Bay of Plenty local Bharat Popli anchored his team’s innings as he worked his way to 63, off 200 balls, in a patient knock that saw nine shots despatched to the boundary.

Western Bay of Plenty resident Corey Anderson made a handy start to reach 34 before being dismissed. Daryl Mitchell hit a half century, with the Northern Knights holding first innings advantage at 252/8 at stumps on day two.
