Two Bay Of Plenty Teams Chase Success At The ND Primary Tournament In Hamilton

The annual ND Primary tournament which will be played in Hamilton next week (26-29 November 2017), was the launching pad for current Bay of Plenty Black Caps stars Kane Williamson and Trent Boult, in past years.

Kicking off on Sunday (26 November), four days of competition awaits the two Bay of Plenty teams that will play in the annual tournament. The Bay of Plenty Lakeland side is selected from the Eastern Bay of Plenty, Rotorua and Taupo regions, with the Western Bay of Plenty, the home of the Coastland side.

A Tokoroa youngster has selected in the Lakeland team. Jayden Myers plays in a Tokoroa team, which play in Rotorua Saturday morning competition by invitation, with the Tokoroa young player impressing the selections to warrant inclusion in the combined representative side.

Lakeland Cricket Development Officer Brent Jones will coach the Lakeland representatives, with Englishman Sam Owen who is having a cricket sabbatical in New Zealand this summer, mentoring the Coastland boys.

The huge expanse of Northern Districts Cricket, dictates that some games of the annual competition will be played outside the boundaries of tournament week.

Lakeland recently played Poverty Bay at Rotorua, with the Bay of Plenty representatives posting a solid 172/8 in their turn at bat. Ben Doogue top scored with 40 runs, with Cohen Stewart and Isaac Clements both reaching the thirties. The visitors took out the encounter after reaching the target for the loss of three wickets.
