ND Junior Secondary Tournament @ Gisborne 30th November – 4th December 2020

DAY TWO REPORT 1 DECEMBER 2020 - No play due to rain

DAY ONE REPORT 30 NOVEMBER 2020

Bay of Plenty Coastland opened their ND Junior Secondary campaign in Gisborne with two T20 victories on day one, albeit the second win, decided by the Duckworth Lewis formula for deciding rain affected matches.

First up, they posted 160/4 against Counties Manukau then restricted them to 125/8. Utsav Kumar and Ethan Chamberlain joint top scored with 30 runs, with Luke Scrimgeour and Jake Riley each taking three wickets.

The Coastland bowlers had Hamilton on the ropes in restricting them to 69/8 in the afternoon match, where Loughlin Keaney returned 3/8. The rain closed in, in the Coastland reply, with the Bay of Plenty sides 52 for the loss of a solitary wicket after six overs enough to give them the result. Ethan Chamberlain was again in good touch top scoring with a unbeaten 25 runs.

Bay of Plenty Lakeland failed to chase down the Waikato Valley target of 150 in game one. Individual Lakeland honours belonged to Zach Forster and Logan Agnew with two wickets and Ethan Staddon’s 20 runs.

A good performance by the Lakeland representatives in game two, when they posted 116/7, wasn’t enough as Northland comfortably reached their rain shorted target. Tom Yetsenga posted the best Bay of Plenty batting total on the opening days play, with 48 runs, with Sean Gapes reaching 25 before being dismissed.
