Four Sides to Take Part in Pre-Season Matches

The Lake Taupo Cricket Club, has achieved plenty of milestones in its short existence since being established in 2016 - with another highpoint taking place, with an Invitation Pre-Season Twenty 20 tournament to be held at Owen Delany Park in Taupo.

On Saturday and Sunday 28th/29th September 2019, the Lake Taupo premier team will be joined by premier sides from the Karaka, Te Puke and Taradale Cricket Clubs, as the four participating sides take their final steps in their 2019 pre-season preparations.

“Our main objective as a club is to give our young Taupo cricketers a view of the pathway to premier and representative grade cricket. This tournament was seen as a opportunity to not only provide our premier cricket players with essential match practice, but also a way to showcase premier grade cricket to Taupo’s up and coming players in a unique and inspiring way”, said Lake Taupo CC representative Blaine Inch.

“We have partnered with Taupo Junior Cricket and will be providing a unique opportunity to our rising stars, who will accompany each team on the weekend as their 13th man”. “This will be a great chance for our youngsters to get an insight into how a premier grade team operates on game day, as well as ways to assist them to develop themselves in ways they wouldn’t be able to in their current environment”.

“The weekend will be built around having fun. We have done our best to make it an affordable exercise travelling to Taupo, so the teams can make the most of their pre-season weekend”. “Taupo is a fantastic destination, not only for cricket but for any kind of traveler. We will be hosting a social evening at our clubrooms on the Saturday night as we hope to establish long-term relationships with the other participating clubs. We have a long term vision of an eight team tournament and hope to entice these clubs back next year and in the future”.

One of the hidden gems in the Great Lake region is Owen Delany Park, which the visitors will get up close and personal with during the tournament. The Owen Delany facility, is an outstanding central cricket venue, readily accessible to Mid-North Island cricket players and fans alike. The number one field is fully banked with a good-sized grandstand.

There are two further playing levels which hosts three quality grass blocks and six artificial wickets. The best part of Owen Delany Park is the amazing drainage, which even after solid downpour during a game, quickly drains away.
