Newsletter from Chris Rapson Bay of Plenty Cricket Chief Executive

There will be plenty of action at Bay Oval this summer and all under lights!. If like me, you enjoy high-level international sport then in terms of cricket this year, your cup is full to overflowing.
Matches under lights are:

16 December Knights v Auckland Aces T20 @ 7pm
27 December Knights v Central Stags T20 @7pm
1 January Black Caps v West Indies T20 @ 7pm
3 January Black Caps v West Indies T20 @ 7pm
27 January Black Caps v Pakistan T20 @ 7pm
28 February Black Caps v England T20 @ 7pm

In addition, there are the matches in the Under 19 Cricket World Cup to view, all also under lights; these take place in early January and the Final is here in early February. Admission to Bay Oval for these matches is free of charge.

Cricket was well represented at the Bay of Plenty Sports Awards evening in Rotorua recently. What a great evening with a very able master of ceremonies. Many thanks to those who organised the evening from Sport Bay of Plenty.

On the local front, we held a hugely successful Go-Girls Festival Day for our Year 4-6 girls on 30th November. 32 teams of six participated in this fun day and it was great to see the enjoyment that was a feature of the day. The Go-Girls events are rapidly building into a marquee programme for Bay of Plenty Cricket and are a tribute to the work that has been undertaken at BOPCA, in the girl’s game for more than eight years. It is hard to believe but almost 200 girls were present at Bay Oval. Congratulations to all who took part and to the organisers in our team.

The Mount Maunganui skyline has been changed forever, with the floodlights at the Bay Oval, a beacon that can be seen from throughout much of the Mount Maunganui peninsula. The lights are up and running and fully tested. The media towers are being developed further and the new replay screen is under construction and will be in operation from the first night game.

The last few weeks have seen Bay of Plenty teams playing in the annual ND tournaments. The Bay of Plenty senior men’s team went within a whisker of taking out the inaugural ND T20 tournament in Taupo. The Bay of Plenty Primary, Junior Secondary, Secondary Schoolgirls and Senior Secondary have all performed with distinction and we look forward to the players progress in the future.
From all at Bay of Plenty Cricket Association, we would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone involved in Sport a happy festive season and great results in 2018.
