DEBUTANTS SHINE IN THE LAST FERGUS HICKEY GAME OF THE SEASON

Posted: Wednesday, 23 March 2022

It was a depleted side that headed to Counties Manukau territory over the weekend to play the last rep game of the season.

A perfect storm of covid, injury and representative duties saw the Craigs Investment Partners Bay of Plenty team name a side which only had 4 players from the last game two weeks prior.

Day 1 started well with new captain Dominic Crombie winning the toss and electing to bat first but in challenging conditions, bay found themselves at 38/3 in the 21st over.

A 4th wicket 86 run partnership between Fergus Lellman and debutant Andrew Mascall anchored the innings and helped take them to a competitive total of 246 all out. Mascall finishing up with a very patient 81 off 171 balls on debut.

Henry Conway got off to a good start with the first wicket of the innings and Craig Baldry did a fantastic job bowling into the wind, dismissing 4 at an economy rate of 1.69 but with a good deck for batting and windy conditions the bay weren't able to bowl them out which resulted in a first innings win to Counties Manukau.

Craigs Investment Partners Bay of Plenty 246/10, 93.4 overs (Andrew Mascall 81, Fergus Lellman 54; Luke Williamson 3/28)
Counties Manukau 314/6, 99 overs (Sandeep Patel 81, Leon Marconi 77*; Craig Baldry 4/59)
Counties Manukau won first innings
