Brian Dunning Trophy Day 1

Brian Dunning Trophy Day 1

Posted: Monday, 4 December 2017

Bay of Plenty made a solid start, on the opening day of the ND Twenty 20 tournament being played at Owen Delaney Park in Taupo 3rd – 5th December 2017.

A change of format, with the Brian Dunning Trophy at stake, sees the six ND minor association teams engaging in a round robin series to find the 2017 Brian Dunning tournament champion.

Bay of Plenty T20 captain Jono Boult won the toss and elected to bat against Waikato Valley. The Waikato region bowlers seized the early initiative and had the host side in some trouble at 3/27. The arrival of Sean Davey at the crease upped the ante, with the former New Zealand Under 19 player going on to score 45 runs off just 30 balls.

Davey and Jono Boult put on a 67 run partnership, with the Bay skipper taking control to blast an unbeaten 65 off 45 balls. Eight 4’s and a six made a big contribution to the captains knock, as Bay of Plenty reached 151/6.

At 84 for the loss of two wickets, the Waikato region side were in control. However the Bay of Plenty bowlers restricted their opponents momentum and limited them to 142 for the loss of seven wickets.

Sean Davey, Captain Boult and Tim Pringle each claimed two wickets, with fifteen year old Pringle grabbing the key wicket of their opposition top scorer, who reached 61 before being removed.

Day Two (4 December 2017) sees the Bay of Plenty representatives meeting Counties Manukau first up before playing Poverty Bay in the afternoon game.
