Trent Boult, making a rare appearance for Element IMF Cadets in the Versatile Tauranga Williams Cup, was joined by older brother Jono to wreak havoc, as Generation Homes Lake Taupo were bowled out for 66 at the Tauranga Domain on Saturday (15 February 2020).
The visitors won the toss and elected to bowl first on their home turf on Saturday (15 February 2020) and had some success with the ball, removing Cadets for 175 in the 46th over. Batting at five, Jono Boult top scored with 35 runs, with Andrew Mascall, Fergus Lellman and Scott Steward reaching the twenties. Caleb Bates was the pick of the Taupo sides bowlers with three wickets for 21 runs.
The Cadets Black Cap, who loves to turn out for his club when the opportunity arises, opened his sides bowling attack taking the first three wickets with just 29 runs on the board. A minor rally saw Lake Taupo reach 49 for five wickets, before Jono Boult chimed in with the ball taking three wickets.
The Taupo team were bowled out with the second ball of the 24th over, for 66, with the score book showing that Trent Boult had taken four wickets for 19 runs with Jono Boult returning figures of 3/21.
Ball dominated bat just down the road from the Tauranga Domain, where Bond & Co Tauranga Boys College defended a modest target, against Eve's Realty Greerton at Nicholson Field. Tauranga Boys batted first, with player coach Tim Clarke top scoring with a hard fought 30 and Blake Pentecost chipping in with 25 runs.
Greerton Captain Shane Wineti, Umesh Ranaraja and Taylor Bettelheim returned identical figures, of three wickets at a cost of nine runs, as Tauranga Boys were bowled out for just 90 runs.
Led by Kieran New and Tim Pringle, who both grabbed four wicket bags, the Tauranga Boys bowlers applied real pressure from the opening ball. At 31/5, the visitors were in deep trouble. It was left to a 10th wicket partnership of 22 runs,between keeper Tom Renouf and Patrick Davenport, to nearly get them over the line. When the Greerton number eleven was run out, the scorecard showed that the visitors had fallen three runs short of their target.
A run fest took place at the Te Puke Domain between New World Te Puke and Bayleys Central Indians. The Rotorua visitors posted a very solid 231/4, with Jeff Simmons top scoring with an unbeaten 78. Led by Blair McKenzie (79) and Tai Bridgman Raison (63) the home side got home with seven wickets to spare,
Carrus Mount Maunganui cruised to a ten wicket victory over Geyser City, at Smallbone Park in Rotorua. Geyser City were bowled out for 114, with Cody Fell shining out like a beacon top scoring with an unbeaten 34 runs. Peter Drysdale (62no) and Matt Golding (50no) left little time in belting the winning runs, with victory coming with the second ball of the 16th over.
