A Development Bowler And Senior Men’s Team Batsman Earn Player Of The Month Honours

A Bay of Plenty Development team bowler on debut and a Bay Senior Men’s opening batsman, will be presented with the November and December BOPCA Player of the Month Awards, later in the year.

Bay of Plenty Cricket introduced the BOPCA Player of the Month Award in 2006. The purpose of the award is to recognise excellence in Bay of Plenty Cricket during each month of the playing season.

It was appropriate that the Bay of Plenty Development side, opened their Basil McBurney Trophy campaign against long-time rivals Hamilton on Guy Fawkes (5 November 2017) day, with a explosive hat-trick in the encounter

The Bay side batted first and posted a competitive target, when they reached 206/7, in their allotted fifty overs. Tauranga Boys College First XI all-rounder Dominic Crombie, who was making his Bay Development debut, top scored with an unbeaten 53 runs.

Hamilton got away to a solid start, reaching the 60 run mark without loss, after fifteen overs. With the Waikato side looking to dominate, the introduction of Dominic Crombie dramatically changed the match momentum, with the Bay all-rounder grabbing a hat-trick.

The game went down to the wire, with Hamilton needing six for victory off the last over. A four from the last ball off the contest, wasn't enough, with the Bay side elated to grab a two run win, for their first win over Hamilton Development in seven seasons.

Opening batsman Joe Carter cut loose in spectacular style against Poverty Bay, in T20 action, at the annual ND one-day tournament held in Taupo during December 2017. Carter hammered 122 not out from just 64 balls, including eight 4’s and six 6’s, at an incredible strike rate of 190.63 (per 100 balls).

Carter rewrote two of the Bay of Plenty Cricket records, in the big victory against Poverty Bay - when he blasted Bay of Plenty’s first Twenty 20 century and posted his seventh three figure score, behind just Bharat Popli (10 centuries).
